Hide What is Meta Novus? -

Meta Novus is the umbrella site for headline syndicatior you are currently reading. Meta Novus is loosely translated to "global refresh". A syndicator is a web portal which pulls together multiple news/content sources into a single page. Meta Novus features three subsites at this time: Juris Novus features law headlines, Machina Novus features technology headlines, Scientia Nouvs features science headlines and Terra Novus features world headlines.

Scientia Novus was designed, created and is maintained by Greg Smith (about). I developed Meta Novus, originally Juris Novus, to "scratch an itch": easy access to headlines from multiple sites I read daily. Rather than use a desktop aggregator I chose to code my own and place it online. Why? Meta Novus is accessible from any computer with an Internet connection and available to the community at large. There are several excellent headline grabbing tools online already and this is merely my own contribution to that tradition. Comments? Suggestions? Email me.

10/09/2005 - Still Kicking

This are still humming along behind the scenes. Submit feeds you read often they will definately be considered.

7/08/2005 - Live!

Well then. Meta Novus is alive and breathing. After, what has so far been, a five hour marathon things are starting to look up around here. Meta Novus is the new "umbrella" site under which various Novuses [Novii?] are arrainged. Visit the other sites via convenient links at the top of the page. More headlines, more than you can shake a stick at. I am in maintenance/upgrade mode so hit me with your best shot while I have some spare time.

6/07/2005 - Version 2.0

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was working on the Next Big Thing for Scientia Novus. I am happy to announce that in a few weeks time the Next Big Thing will be put live! Juris Novus will be mutating into more of an umbrella aggregation service. What does that mean? More blogs! Law / Technology / Politics / Sports are all on the table for the initial kick off. The "Juris" section of the site will remain wholly intact, will still be accessible from the same bookmark and your user preferences will be brought over.

5/26/2005 - Practitioner Blogs.

I have merged in the first batch of Practitioner Blogs. As you can tell, they are a bit thin right now as are the Student Blogs. Please load up my inbox with some Suggested Feeds and give me a hand with fleshing out the new blog sections! This is a great chance to get a blog fast-tracked onto the site.

5/20/2005 - Modes.

I had a feeling that at some point in the near future Scientia Novus would be taking steps towards something new. Thanks to Gordon Smith from The Conglomerate I have already put the wheels in motion.

Simply put, Modes are in. What are Modes? Click on the little "?" next to the Modes menu and you will get a good idea: topical blog listings. Modes allows Scientia Novus to syndicate three times the blogs previously featured and opens up all sorts of avenues for growth. I have spent a good chunk of today redesigning the back end of the site to make it flexible and easily extendable. I am happy to report that the work has resulted in a system which allow for easy integration of new modes. Brighter days are upon us!

5/17/2005 - Search.

Search is live! The feature is a bit primitive at this point, best results can be obtained by using simple forms of words and full phrase searching is not integrated yet. I have removed the preview feature from the site because it increased page size by 100% and did not add any real value in my opinion. If this deeply effects you please get in touch and I will see what I can do about rectifying the situation.

5/07/2005 - JN Law Professor Edition.

I am proud to announce that Scientia Novus' first "theme edition" has gone live without a hitch. Law professors have long been the corner stone of the legal blogsphere and for the coming months Scientia Novus will feature a rotating cast of some of the best law professor blogs out there.

This collaboration is made possible by Scientia Novus, Law Professor Blogs and all of the other featured blogs. Volokh Conspiracy, White Collar Crim Prof Blog, The Conglomerate, Law School Support Blog, Lawrence Lessig, Health Law Prof Blog and the Antitrust Prof Blog are all ran in whole or part by law professors.

Are you a law prof? Interested in seeing your handi-work featured during the next few months? Contact me directly for details.

4/25/2005 - Bits and Pieces.

A few more tweaks have gone into the site. Article previewing is now live - I may elect to turn this into a user preference due to the increased page size (almost a factor of 2!). Hover over a link to see, if provided, an article preview.

4/16/2005 - Flexing.

Thanks to some help from a friend Scientia Novus has some new skin. Past Headlines are also active - old posts will continued to be archived until I decide on how far back I want to store them (a month, 500 posts, any ideas?).

- Greg

4/13/2005 - Tweaks.

In addition to welcoming the newest Featured Feed, SCOTUSblog, I have increased the number of news items displayed from six to ten. There appears to be a demand for more content and bumping up the number of news items should help satisfy it. Also added is a "Scientia Novus Alumni Club" posted at the bottom of the page which features feeds which have been syndicated here but rotated out.

- Greg

4/08/2005 - New Feed Schedule.

The latest feed schedule has been merged in - a warm welcome to Overlawayered, Appellate Law and Practice along with The Conglomerate. These three blogs were all chosen for the same reason: their exceptionally high quality and contributions to the law blog sphere.

Work on v2 is coming along nicely for those of you keeping score at home please email in any feature requests.
